Ava

Ava

Ava: Ava’s nickname is Monkey Girl! Ava has a big family, she has one sister, Veronica, and two brothers named Mike and David. Ava loves football and eating macaroni. Her favorite singer is Andrea Bocelli. Her favorite book is Five Black Cats. When Ava has time, she likes to watch “Just Add Magic” on TV. Ava’s favorite subject in school is art with Mrs. Docherty. Something that Ava wants her teachers Miss White and Ms. LaBar to know is that they help her a lot and Ava thinks they are both very nice. When Ava is not in school, she likes to play with her friends outside. Ava is really good at dancing and she has excellent penmanship! Someday, Ava hopes to become a teacher.

Alondra

Alondra

Alondra: Alondra’s nickname is “Lonnie”. Alondra has one sister named Brooklynn. Alondra loves dance; this is something that she is really good at doing. Alondra’s favorite food is steak. Alondra’s favorite singer is Demi Lovato. Her favorite book is The Cat in the Hat. Alondra’s favorite TV show is “Girl Meets World”. Alondra’s favorite subjects in school are math and art. Something that Alondra wants her teacher, Mrs. Giangrande, to know is that she loves her. When Alondra is at home, she likes to read with her sister, Brooklynn. When Alondra grows up, she hopes to become a dance teacher.

Logan

Logan

Logan: Logan’s nickname is “Logsters”. Logan has one brother, Henry, and one sister, Hattie. Logan loves to play soccer and eat strawberries! Logan’s favorite singer is Justin Timberlake. His favorite book is Super Mario Adventures. Logan enjoys watching “Sonic” on TV. Logan’s favorite subject in school is music taught by Mr. Moschella. Logan wants his teacher, Mrs. Barone, to know that he loves to read! When Logan is not in school, he likes to play with his friends. Logan is really good at playing lots of different sports. When Logan grows up, he hopes to be an illustrator and a creator of TV shows.

Grace

Grace

Grace: Loves to play soccer! Her favorite food is gummy bears. Grace’s favorite singer is very special to her, it’s her cousin, Ally. Grace’s favorite book is Piggy and Gerald. Her favorite TV show is “Minions”. Grace says her favorite subject in school is….RECESS!!! Grace is a well-traveled girl; she has seen the WORLD. Grace has lived in Kiev and Abu Dhabi. She has also visited Paris, France, and Austria. Grace has also been to Euro Disney…wow. When Grace is not at school, she likes to play outside. Grace has a wonderful imagination and loves to play princess at home. Someday she hopes to become a teacher just like her teacher, Miss Miebach!

Anna

Anna

Anna: Anna’s nickname is “Banana”…hey, it rhymes!! Anna has one brother named James. Anna likes to swim, it’s her favorite sport; she is a strong swimmer. Anna loves grapes they are her favorite food. Anna likes the music of Kidz Bop. Anna is reading chapter books; her favorite series is Junie B. Jones. Anna likes to watch “Lab Rats” on TV when she has some free time. Something that she wants her teacher, Mrs. Novak, to know is that she is a great big sister and she loves to help her mom and dad at home. When Anna is not in school, she likes to play soccer, play board games, and do puzzles with her family. Anna is really good at math and art. Someday, Anna hopes to become a teacher like Mrs. Novak!

Gio

Gio

Gio: Gio’s nickname is ‘G’! Gio has one brother named Dominic. Gio was so excited to learn that he is this month’s Student of the Month from his classroom! Gio is all about soccer…it’s his favorite sport, he’s really good at it and it’s something he could play all day. Gio’s favorite food is sausage. His favorite singer is Bruno Mars. Gio likes the book Ranger in Time, it’s his favorite one in the library. Gio enjoys the television show “Amazing World of Gumball”. Gio’s favorite subject in school is math. Something that Gio would like his teacher, Mrs. Rogers, to know is that he likes to learn in her class. During his free time, Gio likes to play video games. It’s no surprise that someday Gio hopes to become a professional soccer player. 

 

Ethan

Ethan

Ethan: Ethan’s nickname is ET. Ethan has one sister named Nayalie. His favorite sport is swimming. Ethan could eat bagel bites all day long, it’s his favorite food. Jai Waetford is Ethan’s favorite singer. Ethan enjoys superheroes; his favorite books are comic book about The Flash. It’s no surprise that Ethan’s favorite TV show is “The Flash”. Ethan’s favorite subject in school is computer class taught by Mrs. Kellish. Ethan wants everyone to know that he is extremely happy to be Student of the Month. When Ethan is not in school, he likes to play on his laptop and play outside, too. Ethan is really good at riding a scooter. When Ethan grows up, he hopes to become a famous singer.

Aidan

Aidan

Aidan: Aidan has one brother, named Tommy; he was just born, so Aidan is a BIG brother! Aidan favorite sport is wrestling. His favorite food is bacon! Aidan loves Michael Jackson’s music. Aidan loves to dance he does this very well. Aidan’s favorite book is about wrestling, WWE. Aidan’s favorite TV show is “Pokémon”. Aidan’s favorite subject is math. When Aidan is not in school, he likes to ride his bike. Aidan is an athlete, and he likes playing many sports. Someday, Aidan wants to become a police officer.

Ava: Ava’s nickname is Av! Ava has one sister, Molly, and one brother named Anthony. Ava loves T-ball and eating hot dogs. Her favorite singer is Elsa. Her favorite book is Ava and the Magic Tutu. When Ava has time, she likes to watch “Wild Kratts” on TV. Ava’s favorite subject in school is art with Mrs. Docherty. Something that Ava wants her teacher, Mrs. Battista, to know is she likes the color purple. When Ava is not in school, she likes to watch TV, color, sing and play with her baby dolls. Ava is really good at painting and doing cart wheels! Ava wants to be a princess when she grows up!

 

Amanda

Amanda

Amanda: Amanda’s nickname is Rock-n-Red (check out her hair color)! Amanda has a sister named Samantha. Amanda loves gymnastic and eating pizza. Her favorite singer is Bruno Mars. Her favorite book is Monster Needs a Party. When Ava has time, she likes to watch “Teen Beach” on TV. Ava’s favorite subject in school reading. Something that Amanda wants us to know is that she likes to help her mom cook. When Amanda is not in school, she likes to go on her trampoline. Amanda is really good at doing everything at school, she loves school! Someday, Amanda hopes to become a teacher.

Congratulations to this year’s Governor’s Educator of the Year and Governor’s Educational Services Professional of the Year Mrs. Lois Battista and Mrs. Joanne Howard. Both were Honored at the April 11th Board of Education Meeting!

Upcoming Events:

 

April is Autism Awareness Month and during the week of April 10, 2017, we will be “Celebrating Differences” through various school events. Teachers will be encouraging positive interactions between all students each day throughout the week. On Monday, April 10, 2017, our students will be encouraged to wear royal blue in honor of Autism Awareness Month and donate $1.00 to SCARC. SCARC provides support and programs for children and adults in Sussex County with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Many students from Vernon participate in SCARC programs. Thank you for your generosity!

As a reminder, all Vernon Schools will be closed on Friday, April 14, and Monday through Friday, April 17-21, 2017. Offices will be open from Tuesday, April 18-21, from 8:00 am -3:00 pm.

The SCA has sponsored a Lorax Assembly for students that will occur Wednesday, April 12, 2017.  Students will be receiving a copy of The Lorax and a sapling to promote Green Communities. In addition, each class will be planting a sapling behind the Peaceful Playground! Here is a video of how to plant saplings at home. Walnut Ridge students are “Keepers of the trees”! Here are some pictures of students bringing home their “Truffula” trees, planting them at school with their class, and the assembly.

The Sussex County Miners have started a reading incentive program for students! Walnut Ridge students can earn one free meal voucher to Friendly’s and two free tickets to the Miner’s Game on June 16, 2017. Click here for the flier with more detailed information!

April SCA:  It is time to make nominations for officers of the 17-18 SCA. Please access this form for nomination information; the deadline for making a nomination is Monday, April 24, 2017.

The Watershed Ambassador Program has been visiting our classrooms to teach students about organisms and their interactions with water in our ecosystem! Here is a picture of Mrs. Miebach’s class during one of the presentations:

Ms. Winzer’s class did experiments on peeps to see if they dissolve in different liquids, what happens if you freeze them, what happens if you microwave them and if they sink or float!
