Peace Begins With A Smile
Welcome to the 2014/2015 school year.
My name is Nancy Bertoa and this is my eighth year as the school counselor at Cedar Mountain. As the school counselor, I am here to support your children with any social, emotional or academic needs that may arise throughout the school year. I work with students on an individual basis or in small groups on a variety of issues to help ensure that they have a most successful and positive school experience. I work with students on a variety of topics such as social skills, making friends, separation/divorce, loss of a loved one and study skills/organization. Many children also come to me to help with conflict resolution.
Throughout the school year, I visit every classroom in each grade level to discuss study skills, bullying/conflict resolution and character education. I stress the importance of having good character in every lesson I do and try to infuse one character trait (respect, responsibility, citizenship, trustworthiness, caring and fairness) in every topic that is covered. It is an enjoyable experience going into each classroom because it enables me to get to know every student who attends Cedar Mountain.
In addition to meeting with students, I am also the Coordinator of our school’s Intervention and Referral Services Committee. The purpose of the I&RS Committee is to provide strategies and support to the classroom teacher if they have concerns regarding an individual student’s declining performance in the classroom.
I also have many community resources to offer to parents on a variety of topics and can refer you to outside therapists if needed.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you feel as though your child might need some extra support during the school day.
