In the second grade math program, children are ability-grouped only for the purpose of addressing student needs and differences more effectively. In every group first grade mathematics skills are reviewed and reinforced before developing more difficult second grade skills. The course of study for every group includes: addition and subtraction facts 0 - 18, two and three digit addition and subtraction (with and without renaming), recognition of cardinal numbers.
