Dear Parents/Guardians of Eighth Grade Students:
As we begin the month of June, we are in the process of planning a number of events for our eighth graders. These events include the eighth grade dance, Awards Assembly, Advancement Ceremony, yearbook signing, and an SCA-sponsored Italian ice party.
Friday, June 15, 2018 – Eighth Grade Dance
All students have received a letter which must be signed and returned in order to attend the dance. All school rules will apply at the dance. The dance will be from 6:00-9:30 p.m. in the all-purpose room. Snacks and drinks will be made available for all attendees in Cafeteria A. All students must be signed out by 9:30 p.m.
- Students absent from school the day of the dance will not be allowed to attend the dance. If you are making appointments for your child the day of the eighth grade dance, please schedule all appointments after 12:30 p.m.
- Dance attire includes slacks, collared shirts and appropriate shoes for boys. Girls may wear dresses or pants and tops; please ensure that safe footwear is worn and that all attire is within our dress code.
- Please be advised that students are strongly encouraged to attend without a “date” and that the use of limousines is strongly discouraged. Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.
Thursday, June 21, Friday, June 22, Monday, June 25, Tuesday, June 26, and Wednesday, June 27, 2018 (Early Dismissal) – students will follow an early dismissal schedule. Breakfast will be available and lunch will be served using the early dismissal lunch schedule.
Eighth Grade Awards Assembly – Thursday, June 21, 2018 – Glen Meadow All-Purpose Room
In order to keep it a surprise for the students, you will be notified by letter via the U.S Postal Service if your child is receiving an award. Parents/Guardians and guests of those receiving an award should arrive at 8:30 a.m. for the assembly. The Awards Assembly will commence at approximately 8:40 a.m. and will be held in the all-purpose room. (We thought that it would be best for all of our guests to have the Awards Assembly on the same day as Advancement, in order to accommodate your out-of-town guests.)
There will also be a MANDATORY rehearsal for the Advancement Ceremony for every eighth grade student on Thursday, June 21st, therefore, no students will be dismissed until the early dismissal time of 12:30 p.m.; any students picked up prior to the regularly scheduled early dismissal time will not be permitted to participate in the Advancement Ceremony that evening. Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.
Advancement Ceremony – Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Vernon Township H.S. – 5:00 p.m.
The ceremony begins at 5:00 p.m. Shuttle buses will run continuously from Lounsberry Hollow Middle School beginning at 3:30 p.m. Students should arrive at Vernon Township High School at 4:00 p.m. The ceremony may be held indoors or outdoors— depending upon the weather. An alert via the School Messenger will be sent out if the ceremony is being held on a “questionable” weather day.
- *Tickets and Parking Passes– 9 tickets will be distributed on Monday, June 18, 2018 in afternoon homeroom.
If ceremony is held indoors:
7 yellow tickets may be used for the gym to view the live ceremony
2 blue tickets can be used for the auditorium to view the ceremony on a closed circuit TV
1 bright yellow parking pass per family (all others must take the shuttle bus from LHMS)
If you require handicapped parking, you must turn in your yellow parking pass to receive a handicapped parking pass (white). Please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Cathy Toth at 973-764-4661. For handicapped seating, 2 blue tickets (auditorium) must be turned in to exchange for 2 white tickets at the same time the handicapped parking pass is issued. A maximum of two individuals will have seating in the handicapped area. Handicapped parking will be released last.
Students will sign for advancement tickets in afternoon homeroom on Monday, June 18, 2018 and are responsible for bringing tickets home. Children over 2 years of age will need a ticket. If you need additional tickets, please have your son/daughter check with their classmates who may not be using all of their tickets.
Also distributed with your packet of tickets you will find information regarding the “Parents Who Host Lose the Most! Don’t be a Party to Teenage Drinking—It’s Against the Law!” campaign message. We would like to encourage all parents/guardians to read the enclosed fact card with their teens and discuss why this information is so very important.
The Vernon Coalition has provided these cards for you to sign, thereby pledging to yourselves, your teens and the community that you will only host parties that are alcohol- and drug-free celebrations for teens. After signing the pledge, prominently display the card on your refrigerator or bulletin board at home so it can serve as a reminder about celebrating safely.
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to visit the Vernon Coalition Facebook page with their children so they can “LIKE” the pledge, publicly supporting this message and reinforcing a commitment to positive community norms about social hosting.

It has been a pleasure working with your child this year. Thank you for all of your assistance and support throughout the year. Have a great summer and please do not hesitate to contact us at Glen Meadow Middle School if you have questions about the aforementioned information.
