Dear Vernon Community:

At this festive time of year I want to extend my best wishes to all of you for a peaceful holiday season and a productive New Year. There is a special magic in the air around the holidays - luckily, here in the Vernon Township School District, I believe that magical feeling permeates every aspect of our school community.

These last six months for me, as both your new Superintendent of Schools, and as an educator, have simply been outstanding. Vernon is blessed to have some of the finest people I've ever known - our BOE is simply outstanding. A more dedicated, selfless group of community servers, you could not find. Our teachers and administrators have been working very hard these past six months with the sole goal of creating the most outstanding learning communities for the children whom we all serve. Our support staff of secretaries, custodial/maintenance, bus drivers, and others in this community are the glue that holds us together on a day-to-day, in most cases, minute-by-minute busy atmosphere. And most of all, the students, they are terrific - since my first day, I have visited classrooms, taught lessons, guest spoke, and just sat down in the lunchrooms with Vernon's most precious resource - our kids - they are an apt reflection of the values of this community. You have... we all have... much to be proud in the students whom we all serve.

Everything we do is based on the simple principle of teaching every student for maximum growth and engagement. I know I will be taking a moment each day to give thanks for our students and all of the teachers who work hard each day. To me, anyone who positively influences the life of a child, regardless of their former title, is a teacher.

I thank you for your support and encouragement. On behalf of the entire faculty, staff, and school community, I wish you a joyous holiday season and our best wishes for a great 2010!
