“Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be.” Rita Pierson, teacher, and TED Talk presenter
Welcome to the Glen Meadow Middle School blog! Periodically, I will be updating you on school happenings, student achievements, and other pertinent school information from “The Meadow”. My name is Mrs. Rosemary Gebhardt, the new principal of Glen Meadow Middle School. Our new Assistant Principal is Dr. Eric Kosek. Many of you reading this blog may be thinking that you know both of us, and you do! Both Dr. Kosek and I have recently been transferred from Vernon Township High School and Cedar Mountain Primary School, respectively. We both have middle school experience serving at Glen Meadow Middle School in previous years. We are looking forward to getting to know your child and connecting with each one. I will have an advantage, as I have had the sixth and seventh-grade students when they were students at Walnut Ridge Primary School.
The quote above by teacher Rita Pierson summarizes the philosophy we have of the students of Glen Meadow. Please take a few minutes to listen to her TED Talk where she focuses on the concept of relationships and how critical they are for the developing child.
I invite you to bring your child to Glen Meadow to say hello to Dr. Kosek and me this summer. Please access my Sign Up Genius page to select an Open House that works for your family. I look forward to spending some time with your child and seeing what he or she has been doing since I last saw your child in first grade!
Glen Meadow has a full array of special area course offerings, clubs, and sports that will interest every student; I encourage your child to become part of our after-school social life sampling all that is available! It is from these experiences that help build the “whole child”, forges relationships with other like-minded students and teachers, and helps students learn about themselves. Please begin to peruse the Glen Meadow website as it contains pertinent, at-a-glance information that can answer many of your housekeeping questions about the building. A great place to start is our Parent-Student Handbook.
Both Dr. Kosek and I look forward to serving as the new leadership team of Glen Meadow, please check back for updates on upcoming events. The Genesis Portal will be open approximately during the week of August 19th where you will see your child’s schedule and busing information. You and your child are welcome to come to school and “walk through” your child’s schedule. We will soon be posting our Back to School Night date which will take place early in September.
Don’t forget about our Summer of “Freadom” where your child is encouraged to read books, magazines, etc. that interest your child. Here is the link to the letter that explains this summer’s reading program. The Sussex County Library also has a reading program this summer called A Universe of Stories. Check it out~
Coming August 9th-Reading Sit and Chat and Get Together at 11:00 am, to talk about all of your summer reading. Miss Yost will be joining us to share the books that she’s been reading this summer. Come hang out with your friends and join us! Here is the link to the GMMS Book Talk Flyer. Please complete the Google survey that is linked in the flier if you are attending.
I hope you enjoy the summer months!
Sincerely,
Rosemary Gebhardt, Principal
