Students testing their engineering projects

For those students who are traveling on to Rolling Hills Primary School, I will certainly miss you; it has been wonderful getting to know all of you. I look forward to those kindergarten students who will be entering Cedar Mountain Primary School in September. Please remember to read and practice math skills every day with your parents so you will be ready for school in September. Please go to the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge , “A Magical Summer of Reading”, to join millions of children around the World that are logging all the minutes they are reading. Also, please consider joining the Sussex County Library System summer reading program this summer called “Eyes of the Wild”. Here is a link for the Cedar Mountain Summer Reading Challenge for our entering first grade students.

First-Grade Engineering Project– As part of our science curriculum and the Next Generation Science Standards, students imagined they are part of an engineering team. The goal of the project was to help a farmer move cargo from one side of a river to another. Student groups made a raft from materials such as tongue depressors, straws, rubber bands, masking tape, etc. They had to imagine how this model of a simple transportation system might cross the river successfully. As a group, students were responsible to design the model raft, construct it, and add cargo. Below, you will see our first graders working in teams testing their rafts. Some of the teams made improvements to their designs after testing them in water.

Thank you to our SCA for providing our students with Italian ices of a multitude of flavors! Students enjoyed snacking on their ices on the lawn.

Mrs. Zinni and Ms. LaBar’s students practice spelling trick words and CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant)-it looks like good clean fun as students use shaving cream to write words!

For parents of ENTERING KINDERGARTEN children, I am inviting you to sign up for a time for you and your child to meet with me this summer so that we can begin our important educational partnership. This will allow us to make introductions and answer any questions you may have for the upcoming school year. Please click this link to the Cedar Mountain main page that will take you to Sign Up Genius.

Teacher Name and Bus Information for 2017-2018– As a reminder, all K-5 schools will not be placing the name of next year’s teacher at the bottom of the report card in June.  Instead, parents will be receiving a School Messenger alert notifying you to go onto Genesis to receive your child’s class placement and bus information on Monday, August 20, 2018. Each primary building needs the time in July and August to complete the hiring process and assure that our classes are well balanced and cohesive.  Making class assignments is one of the most critical decisions a school makes – thus, we want to take the time to get it just right. Thank you for your understanding with this K-5 timeline.

At Cedar Mountain, I find that I take in so many requests for teachers. I appreciate your respect and understanding that I cannot honor all of them. I can promise you that I will do my best to place your child with a teacher that will best meet his or his needs, with a wonderful kindergarten or first-grade teacher, of course! I thank you for your understanding regarding teacher requests.

A Heartfelt thank you to our dedicated SCA- Cedar Mountain would like to say THANK YOU to our SCA! Our SCA meetings are held on the first Monday of every month.
