Random Drug Testing
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As per Board of Education policy the Vernon Township School District has a Random Drug Testing Program in place for students in grades 7-12. For students in grades 7-8 the program is voluntary. If you wish for your child to participate in the Random Drug Testing Program, fill out the enclosed drug test consent form and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher. You may choose to join the testing program at any point in the school year.
If your child is a part of the testing program and wishes to be removed from the testing pool he/she may file an Opt-Out form with the coordinator of random drug testing. These forms are available in the main office.
Enclosed in this packet you will find a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the testing program and a drug test consent form to be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher. The Board of Education Random Drug Testing Policy is available online at vtsd.com.

As your child progresses to the High School, this program will become mandatory for all high school students involved in athletics and extra-curricular activities. It is our hope that you will partner with us to help protect our children from the culture of drug use. This program is not punitive. The school district is prohibited by law from sharing information gained through the random drug testing program with law enforcement and school faculty. The drug test records must be kept separated from other school records and no discipline will result or be recorded as a result of a positive drug test. All information will remain confidential. At the termination of your child’s middle school career all records will be destroyed. The sole purpose of random drug testing is to identify at risk students and help them to obtain counseling.
If you have any questions feel free to contact Mr. Waleck at 973-764-6106. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
