As the crocuses, snowdrops, and daffodils try to make a spring appearance, enjoy reading some information about Cedar Mountain Primary School
Parent Engagement Survey: As parent involvement and family engagement is a priority of mine at Cedar Mountain Primary School, I invite you to take this Family Engagement Google Survey. Your input is very important to me. Thank you for taking a few minutes to answer a few questions about activities offered at Cedar Mountain.
Mrs. Haw’s class put all of their reading, literacy, math, and engineering skills together as they read How to Catch the Easter Bunny. Students created a story map of the book, identified character traits of EB (“Easter Bunny”), learned about the sequence of events (which tied in perfectly with chapter 10 in math!), and students wrote about the author’s message. A culminating activity was creating a trap for the Easter Bunny. Students collaborated in small groups to create a trap. They accessed their design and engineering skills as they used various materials to make their traps. Below, you’ll see Mrs. Haw’s students with their STEM creations.
Meet Mrs. Sweeney’s and Mr. Dente’s class friend “Sweetie”. Sweetie is a VIM (very important monkey). Sweetie joined the class in September and has shared a world of adventures through the eyes and words of the students in Mrs. Sweeney’s and Mr. Dente’s first-grade class. The students have learned many interesting things about each other. The students in the class enjoy taking Sweetie on adventures and writing about their fun activities, and they look forward to Sweetie’s return to school each week, as a classmate shares “The Adventures of Sweetie”, documented in a wonderfully detailed journal with stories and photos! Sweetie spends a few days with each student, who records his or her daily happenings. You may have seen Sweetie around town; Sweetie has been to soccer, swim practice, baseball games, skiing, basketball practice, football and cheer, Acme, Walmart, the Dollar Store, the mall, and more! Sweetie has gone to buy a new car, bird watching, quadding, the dentist, and Manhattan, NYC to make pizza!
Sweetie has even shoveled out of not 1, but 4 Nor’easter Winter Storms!! Sweetie is happy that spring has come to Vernon! Sweetie continues to visit families, sharing adventures, reading books, exploring new places, and our first-grade friends are right there to write about it! The students in Mrs. Sweeney’s and Mr. Dente’s class can’t wait to learn what Sweetie will do next. Sweetie is one curious and fun monkey!
