Walking through the halls of school this month you will see there is a tremendous amount of learning taking place!

In Mrs. Talerico’s and Mrs. Ollert’s class students practiced their collaboration, engineering, and design skills. Relating to the story of The Three Little Pigs, students had to design a marshmallow and toothpick house that could not be blown down. Students had to draw two different blueprints, discuss the blueprints, and then select a blueprint they thought would structurally be the best house. After constructing their houses, students had to subject their houses to “the blow dryer” test (on three different settings). Below are some pictures of the activity that took place.

Kindergarten Baseline Assessment System has been conducted. Kindergarten students that may require additional literacy support have been identified by our teachers Mrs. Krops, Reading Specialist, and Mrs. Garofalo, Title One teacher. Guided reading groups will begin this month in kindergarten. Guided reading is an instructional method where students work in small groups as they read texts at their instructional reading level that review or enhance the skills and strategies taught during Reading Workshop. If your child is in need of intensive reading/literacy support, Mrs. Garofalo will begin working with your child; you will receive a letter on this service. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher to receive his or her BAS level. First-Grade Baseline Assessment System testing is begin conducted case-by-case by each first-grade teacher during the week of January 28, 2019.
