Dear Glen Meadow Families:
To close out the year, I thought you would enjoy seeing the work of Mrs. Stigler’s students that created a video using WeVideo to send positive messages of encouragement to all of us. Please enjoy the video…
As Dr. Kosek and I are saying goodbye virtually to our students this week, this is certainly not the ending any of us could have imagined. As this year comes to a close, I would like to thank our parents and guardians that have been very supportive of the educational process more than they ever expected, as parents became in-home tutors to their children as many of us worked remotely. You will hear in my 8th-grade message at our Virtual Advancement Ceremony on Tuesday, June 9th, at 5:30 pm, that parents and guardians are a child’s first and best teachers….and I think that is true now more than ever! We appreciate the time, effort, and commitment that you made to ensure that your child(ren) stayed on track and connected with us.
Here is important information for families of 8th-grader children:
This is an important week for you, not only is it the last week of school, there are many presentations that have been prepared for you as well. Tell all of your family and friends!
8th Grade Virtual Awards Presentation: Please check the main page of our website, vtsd.com, on Tuesday, June 9th. At 12:00 pm, there will be a link under Recent News for our 8th Grade Virtual Awards Presentation.
8th Grade Virtual Advancement Ceremony: Again on Tuesday, June 9th, at 5:30 pm, please check the main page of our website for a posting to view the 8th Grade Virtual Advancement Ceremony.
Special 8th Grade Presentation: Finally, on Wednesday, June 10th, in the morning, there will be another link sent to you in Schoology for a special presentation for all 8th graders that you will be sure to enjoy.
8th Grade Modified, In-Person Advancement Ceremony: Will be held on Monday, August 3, 2020, at 9:00 am, held at the Macerino Stadium, at Vernon Township High School. Please continue to check back on this blog for updated information as we wait for the Governor to continue to provide guidance on events such as this that are held outdoors. We will also be sending a letter home which will outline how we will hold this event. Our rain date for this event will be on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 9:00 am. Please note, this event can only take place outdoors, there will not be an indoor event if there is inclement weather.
8th Grade Dance: SAVE THE DATE: Friday, August 7, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, in the parking lot of Glen Meadow Middle School. Our rain date is Saturday, August 8th. You will be receiving details on this event in the coming weeks.
For all students: There is still a lot of personal locker items that have not been picked up. You are welcome to come to Glen Meadow any day to pick up your materials. It would be helpful if you would call ahead so we can find your things that have been placed with your homeroom. Distribution of all 6th and 7th grade physical education locker materials will take place next week. You will be receiving a School Messenger alert with details. As your 6th or 7th grade child had to share a PE locker, your child will have to look through the bag of PE locker items to find his or her own belongings. Names of students sharing a locker are clearly marked on all bags. We do not have a delivery date of yearbooks. Again, once yearbooks arrive, you will receive a School Messenger alert to come to Glen Meadow to pick up your yearbook.
Thank you to our School and Community Association! We would like to thank our officers:
President: Mrs. Lally
Treasurer: Mrs. Pych
Corresponding Secretary: Ms. Piper
Unofficial Recording Secretary: Mrs. McCann, who also serves as the Executive SCA President
This month, the GMMS SCA donated $1500 in gift cards from ACME, Shoprite, and Pochuck Valley Farms to the local food pantries in Vernon – St Francis, Vernon United Methodist Church, and Holy Counselor Lutheran Church. We thank the GMMS SCA for the programs that they bring to our school and for their countless volunteer hours spent at our school. We welcome back the same team of officers for the 2020-2021 school year. Please follow the GMMS Facebook page to stay current with SCA events.
As we close for the year, Dr. Kosek and I would like to extend our congratulations to the 8th Grade Class of 2020. Though these last few months have been anything but ideal, we hope is that it doesn’t define your memories of Glen Meadow Middle School that you leave behind. The 8th grade class of 2020 has a uniqueness like no other, as they are sharing this experience with those all over the world, and this will always identify you in a special light.
This summer our will be working on plans for the fall and will keep you updated as decisions are made. Thank you for reading this blog and watching district podcasts that will keep all of us up to date with all happenings in the Vernon Township School District.
Please take care of yourselves, stay healthy, stay safe, and stay connected with us! Have a great summer!
Sincerely,
Rosemary Gebhardt Eric Kosek
