Happy Friday Walnut Ridge Family,

It is amazing how quickly the month of September flew by! As we head into October here are some important announcements and items of note (in no particular order):

  • Week of Respect

Our Week of Respect begins officially on Monday, October 2nd. You should have already received two letters from me regarding the details this week. They were both sent out in your child’s folder and posted on this blog last week via a Google link. In addition to our reading of Horton Hears a Who, our Hand Print Painting, and some of the other exciting plans we have made (CLICK HERE TO READ) I want to remind you all to please fill out the “Act of Kindness Sheet” (CLICK HERE TO ACCESS) and return it with your child by Monday so that we can honor their acts of kindness throughout the week on our loud speaker for the school to hear.

  • Parent Teacher Conferences (Important Information)

On Monday, October 2nd you will be receiving important information regarding Parent-Teacher Conferences in your child’s folder. Our conferences are scheduled for:

           Monday, November 6th  – 9:00 am – 12:00 pm; 1:00 – 3:00 pm; 4:00 – 7:00 pm

Tuesday, November 7th – 9:00 am – 12:00 pm; 1:00 – 3:00 pm; 4:00 – 7:00 pm

In the form you will receive there will be an opportunity to request a particular time slot. We are asking that this be returned to your child’s teacher by Monday, October 16th. We will then send you a letter confirming your time slot the following week.

  • Fall Fun Day is Almost Here: October 31

On October 31st we will be celebrating a school-wide “Fall Fun Day.”

Here is a small snapshot of the items we have planned for the day:

  • Fall Fun Games in the All Purpose Room — (Pumpkin Bowling, Monster Can Bean Bag Toss, A Pumpkin Sweep Race, Fall Fun Dance Games, etc.)
  • Trick-or-Treating through the Central Office building*
  • Fall Fun Costume Parade**

* Each Staff Member in the Central Office will be given items to be used

For the Trick-or-Treat. Most items will not be food or candy, but instead

Will be items used to decorate a pumpkin which we will give to each

Student at the end of the parade to take home. That being said, any small

Food items given out during the trick-or-treat portion of the day will be

Chocolate free, peanut-free, tree-nut free, and dairy free — in compliance

With directions from our school nurse.

**Parent, Guardians, Grandparents, etc. are invited to join us for the Fall Fun Costume Parade which will take place on the blacktop behind the school at 11:35 am for the AM session and 2:55 PM for the PM session. (CLICK HERE TO VIEW OUR FLIER)

  • Mind Travelers’ Library Fund

The Vernon Township Board of Education is sponsoring a special reading incentive program during a six week period from October 16th until November 24th. Students that read six books during that time period are eligible for a book drawing that will be held at the end of December. For more information and to download the form to log the books your child has read CLICK HERE. You will receive this form in your child’s folder next Friday, October 6th.

  • Apple Picking

All reports I’ve received regarding the Pochuck Valley Farms field trip seem to have been very positive. The students all came back to Walnut Ridge tired, but they were smiling and had a belly full of apples! I had the opportunity to spend a little bit of time with the afternoon students as they waited to get on the hayride and it was great to see all the excitement on their faces. Luckily the weather was cooler and it was a beautiful fall day.

Thanks for a great September. Here’s to an even better October!

Sincerely,

Joseph S Piccirillo
