Good Afternoon Walnut Ridge Family,
There are many items to update you on from the happiest school in town for please read the following announcements carefully…
1) Early Dismissal Days
As you know Monday, October 8 will be an Early Dismissal Day for our school, as well as the other schools in our district. As a reminder on Early Dismissal Days we follow the following schedule:
In addition to October 8, we will also have Early Dismissal Days on October 24, 25, and 26. These days have been added as Early Dismissal Days in the interest of keeping uniformity with the rest of the schools in the district, which are dismissing early due to their parent conferences.
2) Parent Conferences
Our parent conferences will NOT be held during the week of October 24, 25, and 26 and instead will be held on Monday, November 5, Tuesday, November 6, and Wednesday, November 7. As we have done in the past, this will be paired with the Scholastic Book Fair. More information on sign ups will be coming to you shortly.
3) Week of Respect
Thank you all so much for all your participation so far this week in our annual Week of Respect. The week is really going wonderfully! All the students wore blue on Monday to show our solidarity in the battle against bullying and all week the students have been filling our buckets with Acts of Kindness! Do not forget that tomorrow is the last day of our Week of Respect and we will all be wearing our The Walnut Ridge School t-shirts to show togetherness!
4) Fire Prevention Week
In honor of Fire Prevention Week events will be held in schools across our district. At WR we will be having a visit from the Sparky the Dog, a firefighter, and a firetruck on Wednesday October 10. Be sure to check Instagram for some pictures of the event!
5) Free Pizza and Free Bagels
On Friday, October 12 Rebecca Dorney and the Vernon Coalition will be having two events that are intended for parents, grandparents, and any adult that cares for our children. Rebecca will be going through a presentation on the 40 Developmental Assets, which is an approach to building up our children and keeping them on a positive future path. The morning session will be 9:30 – 10:30 and the afternoon session will be 12:45-1:45. And yes, there will be free food! For more information click here!
6) Picture Re-take Day
Please note that the date for our picture re-take has changed. That date is now scheduled for November 13. Thanks!
7) Mission Statement
The staff members and I are working on developing a revised “Mission Statement” for our school and we need your help! I will be sending a half sheet of paper home in your child’s folder asking you to list the five words that you feel should/or do most represent our school’s mission, climate, culture, and goals. I will be asking the faculty and staff to do the same. Please return these by Friday, October 12. Once I receive your feedback I will be using it as a tool in crafting our Mission Statement. Your input is important, because, after all, the school and the parents are teammates in the job of educating our children.
