1) Parent Teacher Conferences
It is once again that time of year…Parent/Teacher Conferences!!
We will be holding three dates for Parent/Teacher Conferences this Fall. Those dates are November 5th, November 6th, and November 7th. The time slots will be during the following time frames for November 5th and November 6th : 9am – 12pm, 1pm – 3pm, and 4pm – 7pm and November 7th 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm.

2) Scholastic Book Fair
When you come to Parent Teacher Conference please remember to leave your self some extra time before or after your appointment with your child(ren)’s teacher to attend our Fall Scholastic Book Fair, which will be taking place in the All Purpose Room. I will be working the fair with Mrs. DiCarlo, and we both would love to see you there!
3) Mind Traveler’s
Your child is invited to participate in a reading incentive offered by the Vernon Township Board of Education. During a six week period, October 15 through November 23, your child will be given the opportunity to read six books. The books can be obtained from your child’s school library, the public library, or from books at home. When your child has read the book, we ask that you initial the line following the book to confirm that each book was read. (For WR, we understand that your child will have the book read to him/her). When all books are read, you will need to initial next to the title on this Mind Traveler’s form. CLICK HERE and return the sheet to your teacher by December 3. Each student that completes the form will be eligible for a book drawing that will be held in December.
4) The Mobile Dental Program
You will soon be receiving some information from Nurse Gallant regarding a visit from the Zufall Mobile Dental Program. The program is scheduled during school hours on Wednesday December 5 and is an easy way for your child to receive their dental care at school. Zufall accepts Medicaid, NJ Family Care, uninsured patients, and some private insurance. For more information visit www.zufallhealth.org, and look for the notice coming in your child’s folder from Nurse Gallant. All interested families should sign and return the application by Wednesday November 7.
5) Early Dismissal Days
Just a friendly reminder that October 24, 25, and 26 are scheduled Early Dismissal Days for the entire school district. For your convenience see the Early Dismissal Schedule below:

6) Fall Fun Day is almost here
October 31 is next Wednesday. That means that it is time for our annual Fall Fun Day! Please join us in the backyard on the black top for our costume parade! AM students will have their parade from 11:30 – noon and PM students will have their parade from 2:45 – 3:15pm. (Please note: when planning your child’s costume – avoid masks and gore. We need to know which student is which so we need to see their face and we also do not want to frighten the students. The same rules apply for parents attending our parade! ) Thank you!
7) College Apparel Day
The deadline for our HS students applying for colleges through “Early Action” and “Early Decision” is approaching quickly – November 1. In order to encourage our HS students to get those applications in our school district is celebrating by wearing college apparel. On Thursday, October 25 please encourage your child to wear any shirt, sweatshirt, etc that represents a college. It could be a college you went to or a family member went to or simply a favorite college sports team!
8) Instagram
Based on the last podcast recorded by Dr. McKay which included an image of a selfie I took with Sparky the Fire Dog, I now know that Dr. McKay follows our school on Instagram! If you don’t follow us, I would strongly encourage you to. Check out some of our pictures below.

9) Get your flu shot
Just a reminder that proof of this year’s influenza immunization must be obtained by the health office as soon as possible after receiving the immunization. If your child has received the influenza vaccine already, please send of fax (973-76-0843) in documentation from the medical care facility indicating when and where the vaccine was given. If your child has not received the flu vaccine, please arrange an appointment ASAP. We must receive proof of vaccination by January 2, 2019 or your child must be excluded from school until the vaccine is received. Look for a note in your child’s folder from Nurse Gallant with more details.
