Happy Tuesday Walnut Ridge Family!
We have had busy start to December so I wanted to update you all on a few things:
1) CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR!
We are so blessed at Walnut Ridge to have wonderfully talented and dedicated cadre of teachers, aides, and support staff. This year we are proud to announce our Governor’s Educator of the Year recipients as voted on by YOU the parents, along with members of our staff. And the winners are…
DANA COOK (teacher) and JEN GALLANT (nurse)
Congratulations to Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Gallant on a recognition that is well deserved!
2) It’s Holiday Sing-Along time at Walnut Ridge!
Our WR tradition will take place on December 19 this year. The AM assembly will run from 10:45 – 11:45 am and the PM assembly will run from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. Parents, guardians, siblings, and grandparents are all welcome! Please CLICK HERE for more details and for the RSVP information.
3) Thank you to the VTHS CFM students!
I would like to give a special “shout out” and thank you to Mr. Mike DeVore and the CFM (Construction, Facilities, and Maintenance) students. They came to visit us on December 6th and led our WR students in completing some Home Depot DIY projects. Our students received certificates, pins, and got to take home their completed projects. They had a blast. We hope to partner with the CFM students for something similar again in the spring. A special thank you to the Newton Home Depot, for donating all the materials for our event!
4) Visit from Tools of the Mind upcoming
As you all likely know, our school follows the Tools of the Mind curriculum. It is a research-based, best-practice, curricular model in Early Education, and we have been so proud of how it has prepared our students for Kindergarten over the years. This week we will have a representative from Tools of the Mind observing our school and some of our classes. We are really looking forward to the opportunity to show off the great work we are doing!
5) Thank you to YOU
Our cookie dough orders arrived on Thursday and I was so pleased with a) how quickly each of you came to pick up your cookie dough and b) how amazingly WRAP coordinated their efforts to organize the cookie dough fundraiser and sort the orders when they arrived. You and WRAP have been very generous and we are thankful for the opportunity to purchase some additional classroom and school items with the money generated from this fundraiser!
6) Some notes from Nurse Gallant
a) As we approach the “holiday season” parents occasionally ask about protocols for bringing in cupcakes, cookies, and other seasonal treats. This is opportunity for all of us to revisit our school’s policy on Allergy Awareness. For more information please CLICK HERE.
b) Please put the date January 2 in your calendars! Not only is this the first day back to school after our extended break, but it is also the deadline for Nurse Gallant to receive information from you about your child’s flu immunization. It is important to remember that if you have not submitted this to our school by January 2 your child cannot attend school. For more information CLICK HERE.
7) Upcoming visit from K Kids
On Wednesday December 12, we will be visited by the K Kids from Lounsberry Hollow. This is a wonderful school club organized and led by Ms. Barbara Monschauer. The LH students will be reading stories to our preschoolers! It will be wonderful to see the different grade levels working together to promote literacy!
8) Pajama Day
Just a reminder that Friday, December 14th is Pajama Day. We are still looking for new pajama donations for children. Remember that for every pair of pajamas that we donate, Scholastic will donate 1 book to our library. Let’s help children in need and help build our library! It is a WIN WIN!
