Good Afternoon Walnut Ridge Families,

Last week we changed the clocks and this week we change the season officially to SPRING!

Here are few important announcements as start to look ahead to warmer weather and the final third of the school year!

  • Parent/Teacher Conferences are this week!

On Wednesday 3/20 and Thursday 3/21 we will be holding our Spring Parent Teacher Conference at The Walnut Ridge School. If you have not yet signed up for a time slot with your child’s teacher(s) please do so ASAP using the links below. If your child takes Speech, OT, or PT you can still have a conference, however you will need to contact your therapist directly. Since many students are having IEP Annual Reviews we anticipate that many parents will not opt to meet with therapists and therefore we have not included a link/form.

  1. Looking ahead to May tuition payments

As you know, tuition for The Walnut Ridge School is paid a month in advance. That means that the final month’s tuition (June), will be due on May 1, which is just about 6 weeks away. I bring this up because all of you would have already paid a $50 deposit when you registered so you will not need to pay the normal $300 for May 1, but instead $250. Any other questions please email Mrs. DiCarlo – jdicarlo@vtsd.com

III. Our Ski Trip was a huge success!

Despite being initially “snowed out” of our ski trip date of March 1, we were able to reschedule it for last Wednesday, March 13 and it was a wonderful experience. I couldn’t believe how well so many of our students did! Especially considering that for 90% of them, this was their first time on skis. I want to give a very special thank you to the National Winter Activity Center for the opportunity and for the grant funds that allowed our 100+ students to learn ski for FREE! I hope this becomes an annual event! (For some more photos of the event – check out our Instagram page)

IV. Love of Reading Week

Love of Reading Week was March 4 – March 8th and our students had a fantastic time. Two of the highlights of the week was when our Superintendent, Ms. D’Avino read Green Eggs and Ham to the students and when our student had the opportunity to sample green eggs (which were generously donated and prepared by our WRAP parents)!

V. If it is Parent/Teacher Conference time, it is Scholastic Book Fair Time!

As we have done over the past two years, we will once again tie our Parent/Teacher Conferences to our Scholastic Book Fair. So please be sure to come a little bit earlier than your scheduled appointment time to check out all the great books that will be available and on display in the gym! Remember that it is a fundraiser for our school, so please be generous!

VI. Registration for 2019-2020 Preschool is Closed

As you know, March has been registration month at The Walnut Ridge School. Mrs. DiCarlo and I have been very busy meeting new parents and families and taking folks on tours of our school on “Touring Tuesdays”. We have had so much interest, in fact, that we are now totally full. I apologize if you had hoped to register for our school and have been turned away, but I am excited that demand for our school has increased so dramatically. For me, this is the best compliment we can receive — when so many parents want their children to come to WR that we are bursting at the seams with registration after only two weeks!

VII. Going to the farm!

On Tuesday, April 9th our WR students will be taking their next field trip. This time we will be visiting the farm at Glenwood Mountain (across the street from Vernon Township High School). This trip was so much fun last year that we decided to do it again. Last year our students loved holding the baby chicks, learning to plant vegetables, and seeing the pigs!

VIII. Spring Break has been restored…

At a recent Board meeting, our BOE and Superintendent agreed to reinstate Spring Break, due to the limited amount of snow days we experienced this year. As a result, there will be no school for students on Friday, April 19 (Good Friday), or Monday, April 22 – Friday, April 26. How does this impact our Moving Up Ceremony and Last Day of School? I am glad you asked…

Our Moving Up Ceremony date is – Tuesday, June 4th

Our tentative Last Day of School is – Monday, June 17th

Sincerely,

Mr. Joseph S. Piccirillo, Principal
