Dear Parents and Guardians,

September is quickly approaching… as the principal of Cedar Mountain Primary School, I am looking forward to opening the doors of our school on Thursday, September 6, 2018. Cedar Mountain teachers begin the all-important process of developing the skills for lifelong learning where all students develop natural curiosity, self-regulation skills and grow cognitively and developmentally. The most precious resource and the pride of Cedar Mountain Primary School are the wonderfully talented faculty and staff working with the youngest children in the Vernon Township School District.

Don’t forget about our upcoming Open House on Tuesday, August 28th and Thursday, August 30th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Cedar Mountain Primary School and its classrooms will be open for a visit. Please bring your child, walk the hallways, and help your child navigate the stairwells, and locate his or her classroom. Having your child find his or her classroom will ease the first day of school transitions. I will also be available at the door to say hello and meet you and your child.  As a reminder, Cedar Mountain will be closed for visits on September 4, and 5, 2018, in order for our faculty to give its undivided attention to the important work of preparing for the new school year.

Kindergarten Class of 2031 t-shirts: As a reminder to all kindergarten parents, please have your child wear his or her yellow Cedar Mountain t-shirt on the first day of school. This will be a way to promote school spirit and feel welcome in a new school as a new student. Please contact the office if you did not receive a t-shirt. Your child will have opportunities to wear this shirt on many school spirit days this year. It will also serve as a nice memento for you for years to come.

Our first SCA meeting of the year will take place on Monday, September 10th at 9:30 and 6:30 pm- at 9:30 am at our first meeting there will be an SCA sponsored Meet-and-Greet in the cafeteria. Come meet other SCA parents and our new officers to learn how the SCA enhances every students’ experience and how you can get involved in your child’s school. Our meetings are held on the first Monday of every month at 9:30 and 6:30 pm. Meetings are held in the morning and evening to accommodate work and home schedules.

Cedar Mountain Fall Harvest Open House– Saturday, September 15th, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm- come to enjoy some light refreshments, tour our new building, explore our curriculum in demonstrations throughout various classrooms, experience the computer lab as your child would in computer class, visit our library and stop at stations from different community organizations.

Birthdays at Cedar Mountain: At Cedar Mountain, we celebrate your child and his or her birthday in special ways without food.  Each of our teachers has great ideas on how to make your child’s birthday very special and enjoyable without edible goodies.  Your child’s teacher will discuss his or her individual birthday celebrations with you at Back to School Night.  Our decision to implement food free birthday celebrations was made to promote healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.

INFORMATION ON PARKING AND DROP OFF AT CEDAR MOUNTAIN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Cedar Mountain Primary School’s drop off/pick is as follows: Parents that drop off and pick up their child(ren) will be required to park in an available spot in the parking lot or on Sammis Road and escort your child to the front door. Please be aware that Cedar Mountain Primary School does not have the personnel to supervise students who are dropped off early; therefore, students will only be permitted to enter the building at 9:20 AM when students are dismissed from their bus. If you are picking up your child at the end of the school day, students will be dismissed to the front foyer at 3:40 pm. You must present proper ID to Mrs. Donovan who will bring your child(ren) to you.

If you are picking up your child in the afternoon at 3:40, the same procedures will apply, please park in the designated visitor spots in the main lot. Your child will be brought to you at the main door once proper identification has been presented to Mrs. Donovan.

We will continue to use the Raptor Visitor Management System for those parents, guardians, or other family members who are entering the building. All guests will be required to sign in and show his or her driver’s license upon entering the building at the welcome window where you will be greeted by Ms. Donovan.  Every visitor will be issued a visitor’s pass, will be requested to wear the pass in a visible place on clothing, and will be required to turn in the pass and sign out before leaving the building.

School Messenger System: We will be using School Messenger to notify parents/guardians of school happenings, important information, school closings as well as delayed openings and early dismissals.

Please see the Cedar Mountain website for other important school information and the many forms that are given to you at Back to School Night.

I am looking forward to seeing your children in the coming weeks!

Sincerely,

Rosemary Gebhardt
