Spring, 2019

As the temperatures begin to warm and we move into the long awaited “Spring Break,” I would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that this year the State of New Jersey has replaced the computer based PARCC testing with the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA). The assessment will begin for all 3rd Grade students on Tuesday, May 7th.  The test is designed to measure student achievement in English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) and Mathematics (M) based on the learning standards contained in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The first three days of testing will involve ELA and will be followed by three days for Math. The State designates that the ELA sections are approximately 75 minutes long and the Math sections are 60 minutes; however it has been our experience that students finish much sooner.

Please help your child by making sure that he/she gets plenty of rest on the nights before testing and has nutritious breakfast on testing days. Most important, we want your child to come to school with a positive attitude in regards to the testing. Testing sessions will begin promptly at 9:15 a.m. and continue for approximately two hours. Students who arrive after testing has begun will not be able to participate in testing that day. Absences and early pick-ups should be limited as much as possible.

Please note: Your child will only test in one session per day.
