RHPS Principal’s Blog – January, 2020

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very Happy and Healthy New Year! I hope that you had a chance to relax and enjoy some special time with your children, extended families and friends over the winter break.

As a reminder, schools will be closed on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

  • As we begin to move deeper into the winter months and the increasing likelihood of early dismissal days, delayed openings, or school closings it is extremely important to make sure all parent contact information is current and up to date.

  • Rolling Hills as do all schools in the Vernon Township School District routinely send out attendance letters (at 5 days, 10 days, 15 days) to parents/guardians to verify school attendance records and in some cases address chronic absenteeism.

The State of New Jersey only acknowledges very limited “excused” absences. As a result, it is very important that in the event your child will be absent, or late due to illness, or for any reason, the school be notified to document the absence. (Please call the school attendance line 973 – 764 – 2787). This call may be made at any time, but we would appreciate it if it was made before 9:00AM on the day of the absence (973 – 764 – 5590 if you need to speak directly with our nurse, Ms. Muller). If your child is absent and has not been called out of school, an automated call will be made by the school to verify your child’s absence.

Please try to make your phone call as per the instructions above, as an email to the teacher or nurse may not be checked prior to the automated process above taking place.

  • Schools are required by law to conduct two emergency drills per month (usually one standard fire drill and one emergency drill). All Vernon Schools designate the emergency drills as either red or green. Red indicating a stay in place and Green a move outside. All students, faculty, and staff take these drills seriously and follow the procedures in an outstanding manner. We will continue to send home a notice via School Messenger after we have a drill (Red or Green) so that you may also have the opportunity to discuss the importance of the drills with your child.

Wishing you and your family all the very best as we begin 2020!
