August 20, 2025

Dear Cedar Mountain Parents and Guardians,

September is quickly approaching…as the principal of Cedar Mountain Primary School, I am looking forward to opening the doors of our school on Thursday, September 4, 2025, and welcoming our students to the 2025-2026 school year!

Cedar Mountain will hold an Open House on Thursday, August 21 from 10:00am until 12:00pm. Please bring your child, walk the hallways, help your child navigate the stairwells, and locate their classroom. Having your child find their classroom will ease the first day of school transitions. I will also be available at the door to say hello and meet you and your child.  Please note teachers will not be present at this time.

The School and Community Association (SCA) will also be at the Open House to meet our new families. Our first SCA meeting of the year will take place on Monday, September 15 at 4:15pm. Come meet other SCA parents and our new officers to learn how the SCA enhances every student’s experience and how you can get involved in your child’s school. Our meetings are generally held once a month at Cedar Mountain in the cafeteria and via Zoom.

Kindergarten Class of 2038 t-shirts! The CM SCA will be handing out t-shirts to all incoming kindergarteners at the Open House on Thursday, August 21. Your child will have opportunities to wear this shirt on school spirit days throughout the school year.

The Genesis Parent Portal opened on Tuesday, August 19 at 3pm. You will see your child’s teacher, your child’s bus number, bus stop, and time of morning pick up. If you need to change your child’s bus stop please fill out the form at https://www.vtsd.com/o/vtsd/page/bus-stop-change-request. If you feel the bus stop or bus number is incorrect, please contact Mrs. Marisa Broesder, Transportation Coordinator, at 973-764-4344.

Back to School Night will be held on Wednesday, September 3.

  • 4:00 – 4:45 PM: All Parents/Guardians and Kindergarten students and all ABA

  • 5:00 – 5:45 PM: Parents/Guardians ERI & LLD

  • 6:00 – 6:45 PM: Parents/Guardians of First grade students

Kindergarten families, please remember to bring your child with you! We would like our students to meet their teachers before the year begins so they are familiar with their teachers on the first day of school. You will go directly to your child’s classroom.  Students will first meet their classroom teacher. Following that, our special area teachers will guide them on a tour of the building and then to a designated classroom for an activity. At the conclusion of the session, homeroom teachers will bring parents/guardians to the designated classroom for parent pick-up.

First-Grade Back to School Night is for parents/guardians only. We kindly request that your first-grade child does not attend this program.

Did you know that children may experience academic setbacks if they miss 10% of the school year? That's only 18 days or 2 to 3 days a month which can accumulate quickly. This school year, CMPS is focusing on improving our attendance rates. If you haven’t completed our survey, your participation through this LINK would be greatly appreciated.

INFORMATION ON PARKING AND DROP OFF AT CEDAR MOUNTAIN PRIMARY SCHOOL
Cedar Mountain Primary School’s drop off/pick up procedure: Parents that drop off and pick up their child(ren) will be required to park in an available spot in the parking lot or on Sammis Rd. and escort your child to the walkway by the parking lot or stand on the playground by Sammis Rd. with your child. Please be aware Cedar Mountain Primary School does not have the personnel to supervise students who are dropped off early; therefore, students will only be permitted to enter the building at 9:20 AM when students are dismissed from the bus. If you are picking up your child at the end of the school day, students will be dismissed from the front foyer pick up line hallway at 3:40 pm. You must present proper ID to the office staff who will bring your child(ren) to you.

Our district will continue to use the Raptor Visitor Management System for those parents, guardians, or other family members who are entering the building. All guests will be required to sign in and show his or her driver’s license upon entering the building at the welcome window where they will be greeted by our friendly office staff.  Every visitor will be issued a visitor’s pass, will be requested to wear the pass in a visible place on clothing, and will be required to turn in the pass before leaving the building.

We will be using Digital Backpack to notify parents/guardians of school happenings, important information, school closings as well as delayed openings and early dismissals. We will often send important memos and school letters to you through Digital Backpack. You will not see a lot of fliers and letters sent home with your child. If you are not receiving Digital Backpack information, please call Cedar Mountain main office at 973-764-2890.

Cedar Mountain R.O.C.K.S. School Climate Initiative: This year Cedar Mountain is excited to continue to support students’ social-emotional development with our R.O.C.K.S. program.  Please use this LINK to learn more about the R.O.C.K.S. program.
